Energizing the Chakras – Part VI

February 24, 2008

The Root Chakra (Sixth of a sequence of seven meditations)

Begin this meditation standing. As on the fifth day’s meditation, you should be naked. First do the active portion of day five – the movements and breathing for the third eye, the throat chakra, the heart chakra, the power chakra and the sexual chakra as presented in my previous five postings. Next stand with your feet about as wide apart as you can comfortably place them. Rotate your hips forward, to the right, back, to the left and forward again forty-nine times, taking a somewhat slower rebirthing breath with each rotation. You may feel a sense of opening, relaxing or stretching in your perineum. When finished, take three directed breaths into the root chakra point. Now take forty-nine more rebirthing breaths rotating the hips in the opposite direction. Again take three directed breaths into the root chakra.

Now take five slow, deep breaths as you visualize roots going from your root chakra down your legs and into the earth. Let these roots go down far enough to contact water. Feel that water rushing up to cleanse your whole being. Now let the roots go down so far that they contact the molten rock at the earth’s core. Take five more slow, deep breaths as you feel that energy fill your being.

This completes the active portion of day six. Sit cross-legged on a towel-covered cushion (or sit on a firm chair with a straight back). For fifteen minutes, focus on the perineum . If distracting thoughts come, note them, take three directed breaths into the perineum, and return to focusing your attention there.

Tomorrow I’ll post a meditation to help integrate the chakras and connect with Divine energy through the crown chakra.
